Branch Info

The South Hants branch of the Triumph Owner Motorcycle Club was formed in 1978. The branch was founded by John Sullivan (formerly a Birmingham & Wolves branch member) & Paul Seaney, the inaugural meeting & first few meetings were held in the Buffaloes room, upstairs at the Prince of Wales in Bedhampton.

The first committee consisted of Paul (sec), John (chairman), Glenn Inglis(treasurer), John Tomsen (social sec, transferred from West Sussex). Meetings were held fortnightly on a Thursday.

Subsequently the branch met briefly at the White Horse (Westbourne), before returning to the Prince of Wales. Over the following years the branch meetings moved westward; at Wickham, North Boarhunt, Park Gate, Titchfield, Fair Oak, Upham, Horton Heath, Bishops Waltham, Waltham Chase, Swanmore, Lower Upham, Warnford and Colden Common.
Weekly meetings commenced in 1981 & a change to Friday night when the branch moved to the Barn at Allington Lane in 1987.

The branch has from the early days had a strong association with the rally scene. Jim Baker, the branch’s second secretary, was an avid rallyist. Ultimately this led to South Hants staging their own annual rally, the first being held at Brian Butt’s farm at Horton Heath in 1990.

The branch acquired the nickname ‘Scruffs’ from West Sussex branch banter; they referred to us as ‘the South Hants scruffs’(Oct 80). The nickname was officially adopted in 1981 and a branch motif was designed in the late 80s on this theme. By the late ‘90s the nickname began to sound dated & eventually dropped.

A major & stable influence to the branch in the late ‘80s & throughout the ‘90s was established under the guidance of Malc Diddams (sec) & Clinton Lee(treasurer).

The current committee consists of Chairman Graham 'Jim' Massey, Treasurer Dave Grubb, Secretary Tracy Piper, Events Secretary Charly Smith and committee members Mike Smith and Geoff Carson. Tracy is currently the longest serving active member of the Branch, having been a member since 1987.

After a nomadic few months searching for a new venue to call home, we now meet at The Rising Sun, Colden Common, every Friday from 8:00pm.
